Postpartum Recovery Yoga Workshop

Sunday, March 11, 2018 3:00 – 5:00 pm

at Inward Bound Yoga

This 2-hour workshop is designed to give you instruction in yoga postures to be safely practiced to strengthen, realign, and balance the body after vaginal or caesarian delivery. Yoga postures with breath awareness will be taught to reintegrate the deep layer of back, abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. The practice of these postures serves to stabilize the spine and pelvis, rebalance the muscular integrity of the torso, and prevent pelvic floor dysfunction. We will practice stabilizing the pelvic core as you engage in actions such as carrying your baby, lifting the carseat, coughing, sneezing, and other daily activities. We will practice postures to close the ribcage and front abdominals addressing diastasis recti (separation of the rectus abdominal muscles). Postures to address upper body issues such as rounded shoulders, sore neck and upper back, shoulder, hand, and wrist strain will also be included.

Moms: Rest is the most important pose in the first few weeks after birth. After sufficient rest, women in any stage of postpartum recovery are welcome to attend. Pregnant women may attend, but will not be able to practice all of the postures.

Babies: It is recommended that you do not bring your baby to this workshop in order to give your full attention to the instruction and practice. However, you are encouraged to attend Marlene’s weekly postnatal yoga classes with your baby.

Cost: $35 per workshop with pre-registration at least one week in advance, $45 if less than one week.
